You have a whole weekend stretched ahead of you, you’re itching to do something but have no idea where to go – well, let me share a few of my special places to go to on the Gold Coast.

winter-wonderland-holiday-1The Gold Coast is one of my favourite playgrounds on a clear Winter’s day. Stretches of sandy beaches, cafes and parks are there to entice you in. Get up early to beat the rush, head to the southern end of the coast for a cool crisp walk around Greenmount or Burleigh headlands.

At this time of year, you’re sure to spot a whale or see dolphins catching a wave or two. Keep an eye out for the bearded dragons sunning themselves on the rocks and marvel at the stunning beaches that glisten in the Winter sun. You may even like to string up a hammock on the trees around the area and spend a few hours reading a good book. If you’re brave, take a dip, I can guarantee you will feel refreshed afterwards.winter-wonderland-holiday-3

Early birds that love to catch a sunrise will find that Burleigh or Snapper Rocks are the pick of locations and you would be amazed at how many people are out and about on a Winters’ evening at Snapper to catch the sunset.

Need to do something to keep the kids active for the day, pack some watermelon, sausages, bread and tomato sauce and head down to the Broadwater parklands. This is an awesome playground for big and small kids, plenty of pathways to walk or ride bikes around and grassy areas to sit yourself down and relax in the warm winter’s sun. Once lunch time comes around you can locate one of the free BBQs and cook up a storm. While your there don’t forget to check out the Maddie and Mike Sculptures, Blue Perspective Sculpture, Education Pavilion and the Anzac Cenotaph to name a few of the treasure at the parklands. winter-wonderland-holiday-2

Want to see heaps of Kangaroos in the wild? Head down to Coombabah lakes conservation area, take a walk through the bush, wander amongst the Kangaroos and try to spot a Koala hiding in the trees. This area is best in the late afternoon and is unspoilt with few people. You may even spot the odd old plane coming into land in the nearby airstrip.

Well this is a little taste of my Gold Coast in Winter, I hope you take the time to enjoy a day out exploring its many beautiful locations.
