The makeup used on this month’s cover features a statement Red lip!
The statement red lip is on trend in all shades of Cherry, Raspberry and Strawberry. Red is a powerful, positive colour and projects; strength, passion, courage and energy. Who doesn’t love a bold, Red lip?
To wear a classy red lip, playing down your eyes a little keeps the look wearable for day or evening. If you want to pull off a red lipstick, wear subtle eye makeup in shades of gold, bronze or wear a neutral wash of shadow. A defined lash-line also works well. If you’re wanting more of a smoky eye then keeping it softer will be more flattering.
The look for this cover is bold. The model’s Cherry red lips are worn with striking golden-metallic eyeshadow. Gold is stunning worn on blue eyes and gives the look of luxury and elegance. A soft smoky-bronze eyeshadow across the eye socket and sleek hair help create a more sophisticated look.
For a foundation base, opt for a flawless finish but keep the coverage subtle so your skin still looks like skin. You may go for a semi matt or choose a luminescent base by adding highlights to cheekbones and high point areas of the face. Keep contouring (deeper shading) subtle and well blended to ensure you don’t look like you have stripes on your face. A slight hint of peachy-pink blush on the cheeks will add a nice touch of warmth to your face.
- I recommend always using a lip brush to apply a red lip. You may use a liner the same shade as your lips or lipstick or apply lipstick primer to your lip line to prevent bleeding.
- I love to mix a small amount of lip primer to some lipstick and paint my lip outline first. Mixing lip primer with lipstick guarantees no bleeding edges and a perfect outline.
- Be sure to draw right into the corners of the lips then fill the lips in.
- Finally check your lip line is nice and straight and correct any mistakes using a small brush with concealer or foundation.
To create this look, I used Kylie’s Professional Mineral Goddess makeup. The Key product colours are Antique Gold eyeshadow and Xtreme Runway lipstick in Vixen red
