Picking the perfect blinds for your home can be difficult – colour, style, light control, privacy, design – there are just so many things to take into consideration.
To make it a whole lot easier for you we spoke to blinds expert, Lisa Smith from Sun Stop Blinds to get her top tips of picking the best blinds for your home. Here’s what she had to say…
The first thing you need to do when selecting your blinds is go through what type you want and what you want it to do. Do you need that room to be light or dark? For example; most people want to have their bedroom darker so they can sleep in without the sunlight peeking through and a little more privacy is required, so this would need a block-out blind. Whereas, in the kitchen you might like a bit more light coming through, which would require a translucent or sunscreen fabric.
This also comes down to your lifestyle and what you use your rooms for, maybe you have a home office or a kid’s room etc… go through what room serves what purpose and go from there.
Everyone has a personal preference when it comes to colour, but you’ve got to look at what colours will suit your home and interior style too. Ask yourself, would you like the blinds to match your walls or would you like them a bit darker? We have fabrics that will suit your wall paint. You might even like your blinds to be a feature and match in with certain decorative elements in your home – for example a colourful kitchen splash back or a rug.
Colour really can affect the mood of a room and of course brighten it up! With so many patterns and colour options out there, you’ll be sure to find something that will suit your interior!
What look do you want to create in your home? Whether its roller blinds, vertical blinds or panel glides, there are many different looks you can go for. Roller and vertical blinds are very popular and a great choice for many homes. We can take you through the whole range of blinds on offer!
Blinds have many thermal properties, keeping the warm in during winter and the heat out during summer. You may want to think about the rooms in your home, are some hotter than others or are they cooler? Are you looking for something that will keep the heat out this coming summer? Are you just after a feature or something that looks appealing?
Lastly, you need to determined how much light you’d like in your home (as mentioned above). Vertical blinds are perfect for light control, as they tilt back and forth to allow light to be filtered through. Roller and panel blinds are great for complete light control, pull up or away for light and pull down or across for darkness.
